Student’s blog is briefly apple of Steve Jobs’ eye

From Harvey MuddSteve Jobs proved again on Monday that all he needs to do is stand up with an Apple device of some kind and the business press gushes forth with billions of electrons and barrels of ink of fawning attention. So it’s nice to know that the Apple exec (shown, l, in a Monday Reuters news photo at the iPhone4 unveiling) also can be generous in sharing that monumental spotlight on occasion as he did recently by geeking out on the blog of a computer science student in Claremont.

Alleviate Quarterly Estimated Tax Burden By Paying… Monthly?

Quarterly estimated taxes are coming up next Tuesday. Honestly, I don’t really like to think about emptying my pockets for Uncle Sam until I absolutely have to, but paying quarterly taxes in April, June, September and January Is just a sad fact of life for we poor, suffering freelance writers

Govt approaches SC over service tax on renting

The government is in a soup over its efforts to undo a judicial order on a crucial tax policy through retrospective amendment to the relevant law. Through Finance Act 2010, the government had sought to levy service tax on renting of immovable property to businesses, despite the fact a similar law enacted three years ago remained non-enforceable, thanks to a Delhi High Court ruling on a petition challenging the law filed by major retailers

The Automated Profit Package sales page has the look and feel of a lot of other questionable sites that WorkAtHomeTruth has reviewed in the past. Armageddon?

Spanish public sector workers are striking today in response to planned austerity measures which according to the BBC, reportedly include a 5% cut in public sector pay, followed by a pay freeze in 2011. Strikes are affecting essential services such as emergency services, schools and hospitals. Public sectors are apparently angry that they feel they are being penalised over the private sector.   However, the Spanish Government have unveiled plans to untie some of the legal shackles of the labour market by making it easier for employers to hire and importantly, dismiss employees

Thoughts on Tracking202

There have been plenty of posts about the re-acquisition of Tracking202 by Wes Mahler and Steven Truong, so I’m not going to rehash those here.  All the buzz and discussion about this topic, as well as the original sale to Bloosky, have made me think quite a bit about what was the cause of all this. Fact is, there would never have been a sale to Bloosky or a re-acquisition in the first place if Wes & Steven hadn’t poured out their sweat and their wallets to create a truly original product.  Although there are competitors now, when 202 came out it was the first of its kind on the block.  They were able to capture almost the entire market for the affiliate tracking software niche with little trouble or competition.

Why We Haven't Taken Venture Capital

Many people in the technology industry express surprise that Zoho has never received any outside capital, and has been bootstrapped from the beginning. I get roughly 3 calls from venture capitalists, private equity firms and the like a week, and I find that I have to repeat myself way too often. It gets boring after a while, so may be a post will help! First, let me state that I don’t have any fundamental religious issues with venture capital.
