The government is in a soup over its efforts to undo a judicial order on a crucial tax policy through retrospective amendment to the relevant law. There have been plenty of posts about the re-acquisition of Tracking202 by Wes Mahler and Steven Truong, so I’m not going to rehash those here. All the buzz and discussion about this topic, as well as the original sale to Bloosky, have made me think quite a bit about what was the cause of all this. Fact is, there would never have been a sale to Bloosky or a re-acquisition in the first place if Wes & Steven hadn’t poured out their sweat and their wallets to create a truly original product. Although there are competitors now, when 202 came out it was the first of its kind on the block. They were able to capture almost the entire market for the affiliate tracking software niche with little trouble or competition.

Im really looking forward to a Lexis Nexis Boardroom Disputes Conference Im going to in London on Thursday 10 th June. Boardroom disputes can be tricky to resolve at the best of times. Even if it is kept behind closed doors, a dispute can easily damage the company’s ability to operate efficiently but it is worse when a boardroom dispute become public, putting the company’s reputation at stake. When a boardroom dispute arises it is often multi-faceted and there are lots of issues to consider. A typical dispute can involve dismissing directors, breaches of directorsduties and liability, severance payments, and shareholder disputes. It is unusual to see all of these issues covered in one session, which is why Im looking forward to the conference so much. You can get more information about the Boardroom Disputes Conference and the other courses Lexis Nexis run here .

For the past few months in this series, I’ve been focusing on more practical DIY projects; things that would be considered to be traditionally ‘Do-It-Yourself’. I’m making a bit of a change from now on and am going to start looking at DIY projects that are less focused on building and construction and look more at aspects that will benefit your actual freelance writing business.

Companies managing to evade taxes on services received from abroad, such as management consultancy and banking, now may not be able to to do so as the government is all set to plug the loopholes in the system which helped flourish the practice till now. The Central Board of Excise and Customs (CBEC) has written to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to provide it with the remittance data, which would help the department assess the import of services made by various companies.
