Alleviate Quarterly Estimated Tax Burden By Paying… Monthly?

Quarterly estimated taxes are coming up next Tuesday. Honestly, I don’t really like to think about emptying my pockets for Uncle Sam until I absolutely have to, but paying quarterly taxes in April, June, September and January Is just a sad fact of life for we poor, suffering freelance writers

How to Use Stories to Change the World

If you have a blog, you tell stories. You may have dealt with the frustration of not having very many people see your stories, of not having enough subscribers or readers. Nevertheless, you keep on documenting your story in your blog posts, your Facebook status updates, your Twitter feed.

circle project

The project is a large circle made from horizontal bands of tiny pieces. It is made by hand sewing tapes of pieced fabric with back stitch onto a foundation. We need to use two needles, one for sewing the work firmly with a back stitch, and the second for mending split seams and attaching a new tape

Freelance Writing Jobs – June 8th, 2010

I’ll just say this–thank god there’s summer programming. All my favorite TV shows with one exception are off the air and I’d be bored during the day if it weren’t for the Food Network anyway, but there’s a few shows that have started to tide me over until fall. What did people do in the days before cable?

Is Working From Home Really Cheaper?

Being a freelance writer and working from home are great. There are some obvious cost savings. For example, you won’t have to pay the cost of commuting to and from work, so you’ll save money on gas.

Automated Profit Package sales page review

The Automated Profit Package sales page has the look and feel of a lot of other questionable sites that WorkAtHomeTruth has reviewed in the past. Armageddon?

Spanish public sector workers are striking today in response to planned austerity measures which according to the BBC, reportedly include a 5% cut in public sector pay, followed by a pay freeze in 2011. Strikes are affecting essential services such as emergency services, schools and hospitals. Public sectors are apparently angry that they feel they are being penalised over the private sector.   However, the Spanish Government have unveiled plans to untie some of the legal shackles of the labour market by making it easier for employers to hire and importantly, dismiss employees

Thoughts on Tracking202

There have been plenty of posts about the re-acquisition of Tracking202 by Wes Mahler and Steven Truong, so I’m not going to rehash those here.  All the buzz and discussion about this topic, as well as the original sale to Bloosky, have made me think quite a bit about what was the cause of all this. Fact is, there would never have been a sale to Bloosky or a re-acquisition in the first place if Wes & Steven hadn’t poured out their sweat and their wallets to create a truly original product.  Although there are competitors now, when 202 came out it was the first of its kind on the block.  They were able to capture almost the entire market for the affiliate tracking software niche with little trouble or competition.

I can tell you from my own experience that it takes about an hour, and that’s an hour working steadily at it with no breaks. That’s a lot of peas and my fingers were sore afterward.
