Armageddon?

Spanish public sector workers are striking today in response to planned austerity measures which according to the BBC, reportedly include a 5% cut in public sector pay, followed by a pay freeze in 2011. Strikes are affecting essential services such as emergency services, schools and hospitals. Public sectors are apparently angry that they feel they are being penalised over the private sector.   However, the Spanish Government have unveiled plans to untie some of the legal shackles of the labour market by making it easier for employers to hire and importantly, dismiss employees

Thoughts on Tracking202

There have been plenty of posts about the re-acquisition of Tracking202 by Wes Mahler and Steven Truong, so I’m not going to rehash those here.  All the buzz and discussion about this topic, as well as the original sale to Bloosky, have made me think quite a bit about what was the cause of all this. Fact is, there would never have been a sale to Bloosky or a re-acquisition in the first place if Wes & Steven hadn’t poured out their sweat and their wallets to create a truly original product.  Although there are competitors now, when 202 came out it was the first of its kind on the block.  They were able to capture almost the entire market for the affiliate tracking software niche with little trouble or competition.

Dear Friends and Gardeners: June 7, 2010

Dear Dee and Mary Ann and Gardening Friends Everywhere, Do you know how long it takes to shell eight cups of peas? I do! I can tell you from my own experience that it takes about an hour, and that’s an hour working steadily at it with no breaks. That’s a lot of peas and my fingers were sore afterward.

Slow water

They’ll resume work in the morning, first to recheck the rate of water flow. At day’s end on Friday, at a depth of 440 feet, we were getting about 2.5 gallons/minute, half of what’s recommended. We might be able to get by, but the pump would have to work harder, shortening its life.

Another one to watch: Elaine Marshall Gets Key Endorsement in NC

We couldn’t have said it better ourselves. The Independent Weekly, North Carolina’s home for progressive news, culture and commentary just endorsed Elaine Marshall for Senate. DFA members knew she was the best candidate for the job from the beginning, but when the state’s largest Progressive paper agrees with us, the choice for NC is clear.
