Review: 500 Days Of Summer

If you’re lucky enough to have ever been in love, the odds are you’ve also had your heart broken at least once.  It’s a package deal by way of a Faustian travel agency, a journey filled with utter beauty, wonder, and awe, with illicit trysts on the beach at midnight, sunshine-filled walks through the town where The Truman Show was filmed, moments and hours made up of laughter and conversation and perfect silence, entire days spent naked and together… a journey that ends abruptly with your batt

Chasing Picasso Filed Under (i am nobody. – TMNK) by admin on 17-07-2009 Tagged Under : Art and…

Chasing Picasso – mixed media on paper – (4″ x 6″ approx)I’ve often been told that my work resembles, reminds people of Basquiat. And while that is flattering, I’ve often told people that I am chasing Picasso. If one day my work would be worthy of the similar artistic merit, I certainly would be honored.

Colouring The Winter painting workshop…..

I spent three days recently exploring colour at a winter painting workshop at Canterbury University with tutor Joanna MacKenzie. Wow what a fun time my new found friends and I had finding out which colours we loved, which ones worked well together, which ones came alive when placed next to another and which ones went muddy when mixed with the wrong colour! What joy to just play with no expectations on completing a finished artwork. I had some calico at home, so on the last day I ended up paintin

What Would Be A Good Name For A Flickr Group That “re-enacts” Paintings In Real Life And Takes Photos Of Them?

I am thinking about starting a Flickr group like this: You select a painting, such as “Primavera” by Botticelli, or “The Scream” by Edward Munch, or “Creation of Adam” by Michelangelo. Then you create the painting using real people and real props and you photograph it

Portraying the vast flatland of the Playground-Part 1

In “Escaping Flatland,” Edward Tufte describes the challenge faced by people who work in the field of visualizing complex information.  These designers invent ingenious ways of portraying multi-dimensional data on the “flatlands of paper and video screens.” My challenge in the first triptych of Playground of the Autocrats was a little different.  I needed to find a way of depicting 3,500 miles of flat land within the dimensions of my 24″ x 48″ triptych. Painting a single, particular view
