Lisa Milroy: Taking Stock – Alan Cristea Gallery

Taking Stock , Lisa Milroy’s first large scale installation piece, will transform the Alan Cristea Gallery into a room for reflection – part stage set, part attic full of memories, part intimate self-portrait – from September 9 to October 10, 2009. Milroy invites you to study her memories, reflections and dreams through over 30 canvases, not fixed to the walls, but rather suspended from ropes hanging across the space, partly obscured by each other like garments hanging on clothes racks.

Indian Media Gives A Mixed Response To Mukherjee’s `Aam Aadmi” Budget

New Delhi: The General Budget presented by Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee drew a mixed response in newspapers, which largely described the focus on “Aam Aadmi” (ordinary man) as an attempt to serve the “inclusive growth” poll-promise of the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance in its second innings at the Centre. The Hindu, which carried “Massive Rural Spending To Spur Growth” as the lead news, observed in its editorial titled “Focus On Inclusive Growth”: “The budget presented b

How You Can More Quickly Sell Home by Updating the Light Fixtures

by Tom Sanderrs Many homeowners don’t realize that their home might not be selling just because of the wrong light fixtures. By replacing them with more attractive and appropriate ones you will quickly see that it makes a difference when it comes to getting potential buyers to see your home or just drive on by. If your house has been on the market and just is not moving, it could simply be that it looks dated.

The Wargames Press – in print and online

Now that I’m finally settled in Australia, I’m in a much better position to take in new rules, magazines, blogs and forums/bulletin boards. I’ve picked up a couple of issues of Wargames Illustrated (pre-and post-Battlefront purchase) as well as a couple of issues of Battlegames.Battlegames works very hard at differentiating itself from the other two UK based magazines. Sometimes I think itfalls into unwitting satire of itself, with almost audible hear-hears and self-laudatory commentary.

June 6, 2009 Concert by Berkshire Bach

Handel as an Axis of Baroque Music in Germany and EnglandIn 2009, Britain is celebrating a convergence of jubilees honoring composers who helped define the sometimes elusive nature of English classical music. It is the two hundred fiftieth anniversary of Handel’s death, while Henry Purcell will celebrate his three hundred fiftieth birthday. In addition, two non-English composers closely associated with that nation’s classical heritage are having parallel tributes:  Joseph Haydn, in the two-

The Portable Battlefield – A return to necessities

As I do not currently own a motor vehicle, use public transport to commute, attend Corsairs meetings and will likely continue to do so for the next couple of years, the one major restriction on my gaming is setting up a tabletop terrain that caters to my aesthetic sensibilities  and still be able to transport it to and from the gaming venue without risking a hernia.I once developed a quick list of what a portable setup might entail on this blog several years ago, but nothing surpasses theory so

From Space Crusade to Tyranids – A fall into the dark side of gaming

Really, the subtitle should be “a project that evolved or mutated way beyond the initial direction” if I’m going to be honest.A few years back, I’d bought a couple of sets of Space Crusade (including Mission Dreadnought) and was on the lookout for copies of Advanced Space Crusade and 1st edition Space Hulk with the intention of building a full tabletop version. That project died stillborn with the move to Australia and I offloaded my copies before I moved as part of my rationalisation of stuff.

Bay Head Summer Recreation is Back, Starting July 6th

Callie just stopped by my Bay Head Blog post from last year about the terrific summer camp for Bay Head residents, and reminded me that camp is back and better than ever this summer (see her comment below). Last night, Rex and the girls and I came back up north to the Roxiticus Valley after nine days of sun and fun at the beach. We never seem to be down at our beach house in Bay Head, NJ, for enough of July to really take advantage of the terrific Bay Head Summer Recreation program, but whenev
