Why Are Health Care Organizations’ Ethics Codes News?

This just in from the Orlando Sentinel , The head of Central Florida’s largest blood bank told Florida senators Wednesday that she has completely overhauled the operation — from the boardroom to the bloodmobile. ‘Believe me, I get it,’ an apologetic Anne Chinoda told members of a committee investigating the business ways of Florida’s Blood Centers and other blood banks across the state. Chinoda said FBC now prohibits board members from doing business with the agency, has instituted nine-year term limits for board members and has put together a group to review executive compensation.

Big CPA Networks = Not So Big Anymore?

As a CPA network owner myself , I am a member of a lot of CPA networks.  We do business with a lot of them, others we used to business with, and some we mean to but just haven’t gotten around to it yet.  So many offers, so little time… Anyways, when you are a member of a lot of CPA networks you get a lot of newsletters from said networks.  One thing that they always like to do is put the names and contact info (and sometimes a picture) of all the Affiliate Managers at the bottom of the email.  Over the last year, I’ve noticed an interesting trend: the number of Affiliate Managers per network is shrinking! This trend is especially evident in large CPA networks such as Affiliate.com and MediaTrust (formerly AdValiant).  So why is this happening? I think it’s simple: the industry is evolving in favor of smaller boutique networks instead of the giants that thrived before.  With margins on offers getting cut razor-thin, it’s the companies with low overhead and lower expenses that are winning the favor of affiliates today. The new CPA network business model isn’t going anywhere anytime soon, since new affiliates are joining the industry by the day and these boutique networks are better at training and growing the revenue of these newbies.  It’s almost getting to the point where affiliates (especially super affiliates) are becoming like superstar athletes, and CPA networks are like agents.  Can you run an agency with just a couple of key clients?  Absolutely .  That’s why this trend is not going to stop any time soon.

Internet Based Business Emailing Tips for New Internet Marketers

If you have only recently developed a website and want to earn an income as an internet marketer, then your first task will be to begin building an emailing list. The best method for doing this would be by utilizing both your website and a blog, but unless you become known as an expert in your chosen niche, getting people to subscribe to your list will not serve you well unless you can build a relationship with these subscribers and get them to feel that they can trust you and the advice you give to them. So how will you do this, especially if you are new to internet marketing and don’t feel that you have the necessary expertise?

A Small Echo of the Case of the Adulterated Heparin

A small news item published by Bloomberg is a reminder of a serious case that was never resolved: Baxter International Inc., which recalled its blood thinner heparin amid reports of allergic reactions and deaths in 2008, faces at least 30 lawsuits in Chicago by injured people or their estates. As many as 300 product-liability complaints may be filed in the Illinois state court, plaintiffs’ attorney Allen Schwartz of Kralovec, Jambois & Schwartz said today in a phone interview

The Detroit Auto Show has showcased a slew of EVs this year.  When it comes time for automakers to start looking for potential markets for these new vehicles, may I suggest New York City?  According to Cleantech Group, New Yorkers will buy 70,000 EVs by 2015. Consulting firm McKinsey & Co. conducted research that shows EVs will make up 16 percent of new car sales in the city wihin the next five years.  Other international markets will buy large chunks as well.  In Paris, EVs will make up 9 percent of sales and in Shanghai, 5 percent.

The Skepchick versus Barbara Loe Fisher

I’ve discussed why Barbara Loe Fisher is a hypocritical coward for trying to silence her opponents using the courts. Now Rebecca Watson, a.k.a., The Skepchick, schools Barbara Loe Fisher for in essence pissing on the memory of Franklin Delano Roosevelt: You know what’s rather interesting? Ever since the news broke about this about a week ago, there’s been nothing but dead silence from the anti-vaccine movement other than a truly brain dead attempted defense from Ginger Taylor, whom we’ve…

Shipping map tracks invasive species stowaways

Invasive species can have catastrophic effects on an ecosystem.  From algae to jellyfish , ports around the world are faced with a problem, but first, it’s necessary to understand how the problem got there. Researchers at the Carl von Ossietzky University in Oldenburg, Germany set out to crack the case of marine invasive species.  Where are they coming from and how did they get there?  They knew that many small species hitch a ride in the ballast water of cargo ships, so they plotted the course of 16,363 ships during 2007 to look for connections. Before now, it was assumed that invasive species were more likely coming from nearby ports, but researchers discovered that wasn’t the case.
