Freelance Writing Jobs Presents: 19 Parenting Markets

Today we’re offering up some parenting markets. We’ve been listing magazine markets and other writing guidelines this week and many valid questions are being raised. For example, how do I know these markets accept freelancers, and also, how do I know the pay rate is what they say it is?

Confessions of a Late Sleeping, Bunny Slipper Wearing Freelance Writer

I’m getting kinda tired of reading all these posts about the right and wrong way to behave as a full time writer (and apparently, I’m not the only one ).

Could Your Blog be Ruining Your Business?

Many of you began blogging to get more business. I’m sorry to tell you that many of you are doing the exact opposite. Your blog isn’t getting you more business — it’s actually sending business away.

Why Routines are Important for Freelance Writers

I was just thinking about my morning routine, I call it my “morning ritual.” I wake 30 to 60 minutes before the rest of my family, make coffee, start water boiling for oatmeal, handle lunches, feed pets and open doors for those animals wishing to use the outside, lay out clothes, and more. When the family wakes, I have another routine including packing backpacks, doling out breakfast and making sure shoes and socks are on by the time the school bus comes.

Writing with Toddlers? Skip Finesse – Opt for Survival

I have two under five. I’ve survived one toddler and have just a few months until my second bout of toddler-motherhood expires. It’s a trip; it’s a pain; it’s outrageous; it’s a blast.

How to Do 500 Times Better than AdSense

Right around a year ago now, I made my first cent online. It was literally a cent — $0.01 — and it showed up in my Google AdSense account after a certain number of people had viewed an ad for dog food or a shiatsu massager or whatever on my old humor blog. That first cent was exciting, because it proved that you really could make money online in the way it seemed that everyone said you could — by creating sites populated with ads, and then sitting back and letting the earnings pile up.

Freelance Writing Jobs – January 26th, 2010

I hope that you have at least considered getting a free account at Elance this week, because that’s where the quality jobs cropped up. If you haven’t yet, I would recommend it–of all the bid sites I’ve worked for, Elance seems to provide the lowest proportion of bad jobs, which sets it apart. How to Become an A-List Blogger

If I asked you to define what an A-list blogger actually is, what would you say? I’m sure the usual thoughts like “thousands of subscribers,” “lots of comments,” and “large influence” come to mind. While these may be things that many of us agree on, they aren’t really about the blogger , they’re about the blog .

Self-Publishing Books: An Interview with Peter Bowerman

Note: This interview was conducted in July 2009, originally for The Query-Free Freelancer blog. Due the merger of these two blogs, I chose to change the publish date to send it live as-new for AFW readers who may have missed it.

30 Ways to Build Your Writer Platform

We already talked about what a writer platform is , but what does (or can) a platform actually consist of? Your writing platform probably won’t look exactly like mine, and it won’t look like those of your colleagues necessarily. There are no tools or tactics that you must use, although there are some that are used more commonly than others

Changes Under Way — Please be Patient

If you notice any strangeness going on at All Freelance Writing today, please just be patient. I’ll be working on the merger of AFW with the QueryFreeFreelancing.com (as I convert that solely into a site for the book). That means you might see some odd new pages that stretch out the top navigation (they’ll quickly be removed), or if you’re a subscriber it’s possible that you’ll see a lot of new posts show up in the feed (not sure about that).

Heads Up- Yet Another Publication Looking for Free Content

It’s exciting to find a Craigslist ad that might actually pan out with a true “livable wage” for a start up magazine that looks halfway viable. So, imagine my disappointment when I found out that an opportunity from [name redacted for now] instead chose to ask for free content from potential freelancers. They referenced their massive number of replies, and chose to leverage those by asking for freebie content.
