I’m convinced that one of the best ways to pay your bills as a freelancer is to have multiple streams of income. For example, in addition to my magazine clients, I write for new freelancers here at About.com, teach a couple classes at the local community college, and also manage large translation projects for publishers.

Man, am I ever going to hear about this. So, I’m teaching a class about book reviewing, and we get off on a tangent about freelance writing and editing, and I tell my students that “Yes, you do have clips.” This is kind of a mantra of mine: I bet you do too have clips! Well, I’m stumped by a youngish woman who is just embarking on her career, who works in retail, and truly doesn’t have clips. No volunteer work, no church bulletins, no high school newspaper, etc.
