A Look at Some HTPC Chassis Solutions One of the major changes in the HTPC market segment and certainly one of the most visible has involved the chassis solution. In the early days of the HTPC market, chassis options were very limited and were most often just traditional PC chassis painted black and placed horizontally on the shelf. The chassis still looked and felt like typical tower PC chassis and as the saying goes “You can put lip stick on a pig, but it is still a pig.” Now, this is not to say that the today’s tower PC is ugly by any means. I think there are very attractive tower and traditional PC chassis designs; I just don’t think they make for very good HTPC chassis solutions. Aesthetically speaking, these solutions never really fit the room decor and they certainly did not match the rest of the consumer electronics (CE) components in the same cabinet. To make matters worse, they were often too big and bulky to fit on any shelf and were typically very loud with all the high speed fans whirring away. Do you really want to listen to the hum of the fans while trying to listen to the subtle dialog of a movie? As you may guess, this could certainly hinder sales of an HTPC into the consumer market. My, how times have changed… Today, there is a great variety of chassis solutions to choose from with designs and prices that cross the spectrum.

As many of you are probably aware, there is a drive underway this April 1st, for bloggers to unite and donate to the organization Feeding America and Food Banks Canada. April Food Day is asking all those who write blogs and those who read them to donate $1.00 in April. One dollar is such a small amount, yet it equates to ten pounds of food, or seven full meals! If you wish, and are able, you may donate any amount

Jack Canfield asked to interview me recently on the topic of social media. I did the interview but stressed that I really DISLIKE being asked to talk about social media marketing. I consider the whole social media marketing industry over-hyped

I don’t have any proper news – too busy writing and wrapping and, um, mastering Mario Kart (early Christmas present!), but just wanted to post this photograph I took during a carol-singing session at Trafalgar Square last week – what we lacked in tunefulness, we made up for in enthusiasm! And surely at this time, more than any other, it’s the thought that counts. Have a peaceful, happy time, blog friends

It’s All Digital! As an industry veteran that helps to design and develop solutions, I am often asked, “Why would anyone want an HTPC?” After spending some time on this topic with various people, I thought I would provide a little write up. For the sake of simplicity, the terms “Home Theater PC” (HTPC) and “Home Cinema PC” are used interchangeably. There have been many attempts at putting a Home Theater PC into the living room over the years, but these systems have never enjoyed the success they have strived to achieve.

Hello again peepz! I’ve tried out a painting of a creature, using Bobby Chiu’s style, and allready excisting features of some of his creatures, so im not taking any credit:) (hope it is ok:) ). I have become better at freehand paintings, but im still struggling a bit with the realistic parts. on this creature for instance, im having a hard time with the shadows is the face

So, we’re heading for recession like a runaway train, and the publishing industry is jumping aboard. Books on the global money market meltdown are the only growth area in the financial sector at the moment, as newly time-rich, cash-poor (well, it’s all relative: they might be cutting down to four holidays a year, selling the Porsche etc.) bankers decide to try their hands at a writing career. Some of the books sound more interesting than others, and a few will go on to have a shelf life longer than yoghurt due to the quality of the writing and insight, but I can’t help wondering whether the appetite for most of these books may have waned by the time they’re published

I don’t go to the Post Office very often. I think my experience is sufficiently randomized to be statistically significant and, based on that, I find myself wondering why virtually everyone in the inevitable line is either: (a) ancient; (b) evidently a newcomer to the wonders of the USPS and desirous of an explanation of every available service; (c) mailing 20 or more items of various sizes and bulk, each one seemingly via a different method and to somewhere exotic that requires a separate (and not-filled-out-in-advance) form; or (d) entirely unsure why he or she is even at the Post Office and apparently in need of USPS personnel assistance to figure it out

So, if we’re willing to accept for a moment the idea that as readers we like to live vicariously through fictional characters, which is likely to be more appealing: a) a heroine who is exactly like us: who shares our feelings of panic and paralysis when faced with life choices, and who spends a long time agonising over and discussing her future before reaching the right decision, OR b) a heroine who leaps before she looks, makes impetuous decisions without thinking, and often makes spectacularly wrong choices before finding a solution to her problems. OK, these examples are exaggerated for effect, but for years I really did think it was a).
