Yes, that’s right — people are happier when they are not working! It took three researchers from Northeastern University and two from Harvard Medical School to arrive at these stunning conclusions

The partner, Alyson Kirleis, worked for Dickie McCamey in Pennsylvania since 1988. From the Legal Intelligencer (via Above the Law who got if from The Careerist ): In the suit, Kirleis accused Dickie McCamey of paying female lawyers less than males and alleged she was told by a male partner that a woman with children should relinquish her partnership and work only part-time.

Guest commentary by Tamino If you don’t know much about climate science, or about the details of the controversy over the “hockey stick,” then A. W. Montford’s book The Hockey Stick Illusion: Climategate and the Corruption of Science might persuade you that not only the hockey stick, but all of modern climate science, is a fraud perpetrated by a massive conspiracy of climate scientists and politicians, in order to guarantee an unending supply of research funding and political power

This week’s big story in physics is this Science paper by a group out of Austria, on a triple-slit interference effect. This has drawn both the usual news stories and also some complaining about badly-worded news stories. So, what’s the deal

One of the marvels of Comic-Con is that when a panelist asks the people in the room whether they’d be willing to risk a fatal mechanical failure for the chance to go into space, everyone raised their hands. It’s the kind of place where nerds roam free, geeks can be both predator and prey, and the answer to the question, “How about going to space?” is foreordained. The panel I’m referring to focused on the question of whether private companies are better suited to taking humanity into space, o…

Now that I'm in my 40s, some of my friends who are married with children are starting to divorce. I've seen firsthand how hard it is for them at home and at work. One friend completely botched a work assignment because she was so emotionally spent.

In a paper published today in Science, scientists confirm the first known extraterrestrial existence of the rare carbon balls
