55% of UK employers plan to freeze pay for another year

Many employees who, having accepted a pay freeze this year, were looking forward to receiving a pay rise next year, will have their hopes dashed according to the results of recent survey.  The Confederation of British Industry (CBI) and recruitment consultancy Harvey Nash, questioned 240 employers and found 55% expected to freeze pay, 39% planned a modest pay increase and only 4% looked to award an inflation-beating pay rise.

NEW Owl Jewelry and Reversible Earrings!

My new owl pieces originated when a friend started asking about owl jewelry.  A couple of days after she had asked me, I saw two great horned owls in our blackberry patch.  It was an amazing sight to see and then I was inspired to make owl jewelry.  Lately this has turned into an owl drawing obsession, so I will probably post pictures of them eventually! Silver Owl Ring Small Silver Owl Earrings Small Silver Owl Necklace Silver Owl Pendant Copper Owl Pendant I had spent my summer trying to think up a way to make reversible earrings and I finally came around to a very simple solution!  I have been making reversible tree pendants over the summer and I kept thinking that my customers would love to have reversible earrings to go with their reversible pendants. If you have a pair of my earrings that would look nice reversed, ask me about an upgrade to reversible ear wires. Here are some of my new reversible earrings

For Your Reading Pleasure

Inspired by an invigorating literary conversation on Twitter with my friends @Amalari and @Angpang , I decided to compile a list of my favorite books in the categories of fiction and biography, the two categories I love best. The list below is not even close to complete nor did I go about compiling it in any scientific way. I merely went to most of my bookcases and wrote down the titles of books that have swept me away – from my own work, my own world, and my own sense of time and responsibilities

Teenage Unemployment

I saw a recent report that teenage unemployment was edging over 27%. First, I am wondering with US High School graduation rates nationally at under 70% ( http://www.higheredinfo.org/dbrowser/index.php?measure=23 ) why parents or schools are encouraging students to work. I believe wholeheartedly in experience, but not at the expense of education.

The Curve Ball

In the affiliate marketing game, you get thrown some major curve balls.  Usually these only happen once or twice a year, sometimes more in a really bad year.  It’s when the status quo gets shaken up.  Things that you took for granted are either gone or severely changed, and suddenly your income is taking a major hit.  Usually the curve ball happens when a traffic source dries up or gets wise to the ways that you have been exploiting it. Google loves to throw curve balls in the form of “quality score updates” that destroy your campaigns and take up a bunch of your time.  The latest one was thrown by Facebook after the Techcrunch Scamville Post (sorry Arrington, no link love here) and the follow ups that have been the talk of the industry this entire month.  It’s one thing to hear about it on a blog, and it’s another thing entirely to have it affect your business in a very real way.  As a network owner, the Facebook shakeup certainly put a large dent in our bottom line.

1 Turncoat Senator vs. 410,649 Americans

First, the good news: Senator Harry Reid has finally presented the text of the merged Senate bill and started procedures to pass the first set of votes as soon as this weekend. The public option is in the bill as promised and, even better, it has not been further weakened—instead it’s almost the exact same as the version passed by the late Senator Ted Kennedy’s H.E.L.P. Committee earlier this year
