Join us at the NAMS Workshop in Atlanta!

Join us at the Niche Affiliate Marketing Workshop in Atlanta, GA! The NAMS workshop always sells out in advance, and the last I heard there were less than 40 seats left for the upcoming workshop in August 2010. It takes place in Atlanta, GA – and it’s one of the most fun and productive events I attend! At the very least, you should give it serious consideration. It’s an opportunity to work hands-on for the weekend with instructors like Willie Crawford, Bob “the teacher” Jenkins, Jeff Herring, Paul Evans, Denise Wakeman, Maritza Parra – and many more, including myself.

Where in the world to invest in plant conservation

© CBD It’s been a good few weeks with many of our papers coming out online early – for example, I highlighted one last week on ecosystem function breakdown from global warming. Although this has been out for a few weeks, our new paper lead by PhD candidate Xingli Giam (formerly of National University of Singapore, recently completed Australian Endeavour Scholar, now at Princeton University and all-round up-and-coming research star), and with contributions from Hugh “Vascular” Tan and Navjot …

The RIAA? Amateurs. Here’s how you sue 14,000+ P2P users

The big music labels and movie studios have stepped back from the lawsuit business. The MPAA’s abortive campaign against individual file-swappers ended years ago, while the RIAA’s more widely publicized (and criticized) years-long campaign against P2P swappers ended over a year ago. So why have P2P lawsuits against individuals spiked dramatically in 2010?

Chefs Move to Schools – White House, Here I Come!

It would be an understatement to say that I was excited to be heading to the White House for the launch of Michelle Obama’s new campaign, Chefs Move to Schools.  I’m not sure the right words to express my enthusiasm are even in my vocabulary. I see your thought bubble now, “Did she just say she

World Cup Fever – Football is a religion?

It is officially World Cup season and World Cup frenzy is definitely under way.   The day time (or otherwise work time) matches may cause a problem for many employers, as thousands of worker or employee fans want to watch the matches important to them.  For some employees, this will be every match but for most it will be the matches played by their favourite team. Many employers are already anticipating the potential motivation and absenteeism problems which may arise during the tournament.  Some employers are electing to allow flexibility to permit people to watch certain matches and requiring employees/workers to have early start or finish times or otherwise make up the time.  Others are adopting a no tolerance approach and have already started communicating this to employees/workers in advance.  ACAS are encouraging open and early communication and also flexibility in the interests of “team spirit”.

The last painting class

Tuesday was my last ‘creative painting in water based media’ class and I am glad that it is over. I found that creating lessons that introduced the three media (ink, acrylic, watercolour),covered basic and innovative painting skills PLUS pushed the participants towards their personal voice was really difficult.

What Happens To Our Missing Gardening Tools?

What happens to those gloves, pruners, trowels, loppers, dandelion diggers and other assorted gardening tools that disappear in the garden? One minute you are using a tool and then you set it down, perhaps to pick up another garden tool and then when you reach to grab it again, and it’s gone

HP Layoffs – Are Tech Companies Feeding on Themselves

HP is laying off 9,000 workers (read Hewlett-Packard to cut 9K jobs in services unit ) as it “deepens its use of software, rather than people, to do some of the work that those hubs require.”  Industrial economies are heading toward a point that when they become so efficient, when they do so much with automation, that they won’t be able to recover jobs, because they haven’t retooled their thinking to replace high wage, high skill displaced jobs.

The Case of the Mysterious “J”

Have you ever received an email from someone with a capital letter “J” at the end of it?  I don’t know if this happens much outside of the Affiliate industry, but I have received a ton of them.  I couldn’t figure out what it meant, so I looked into the issue. Here is the J in an actual email I got Apparently, it is caused by people that type a smiley face “:)” into their email while using Microsoft Outlook.  Outlook tries to make it look like a real smiley face by replacing it with “J” character in the Wingdings font, which is a smiley face.  The problem is, that only works if the recipient is using Outlook or another desktop email client that can read the Webdings font. If you are primarily using Gmail like I do, then you will only see the “J” in a default font like Times New Roman.  So, just in case any of you have ever seen this “J”, now you know what it means.  Heck, maybe it will catch on and people will just start typing “J” instead of “:)” on purpose.

Cisco Certified Design Professional (CCDP) Certification Guide

About a decade ago, Cisco put together a certification which was intended to be focused more on the design of computer networks than the operation of them. This was originally put together with a pair of certifications including the associate level CCDA (Cisco Certified Design Associate) and the professional level CCDP (Cisco Certified Design Professional)

Credentialing and Privileging Telemedicine Physician and Practitioner

Last week the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) issued a proposed rule revising the conditions of participation (CoPs) for hospitals and critical access hospitals allowing for a new credentialing and privileging process for physicians and practitioners who provide telemedicine services. The proposed rule should make it easier on smaller hospital (especially critical access hospitals) who don’t have the in-house medical staff to adequately evaluate and privilege a wide range of specialty physicians who provide services through telemedicine.

OPERA sees appearance of tau neutrino…

…but for some reason I cannot see the appearance of a preprint showing heir results… Contrary to the recent D0 claim of New Physics in Bs mixing, I can find plenty of press releases (say, here, here and even here), but no formal paper! There is a cool video that is available from CERN that makes the discussion of this experiment here quite pointless, so if you’d like to learn about that and the revival (ok, last twitches) of the old good emulsion technology, please take some time and view it!…

Respect for People & Partners
