If you follow me on Twitter , you might have seen an all-out rant the other evening about a complete customer service nightmare related to Amazon.com and UPS. Here’s a run-down of what ultimately happened: I ordered a small chest from Amazon (directly, not a 3rd party seller). Being a somewhat large item shipping-wise, it took a while to get to me

Alright, so last Sunday, the Telegram published a lengthy, front-page story (in partnership with the New England Center for Investigative Reporting at Boston University ), about the local Salvation Army. The article focuses on the house that the army provides for Majors.

It used to be that Marley would run into the other room when I started cooking. We had a very sensitive smoke detector that would sound the alarm whenever it, well, detected smoke. I’m a better cook now, more careful, more patient.

Well, I’ll admit it– this article in the LA Times is actually required reading for any freelance writer who would like to make a career out of it. But darn(!) is it a depressing article! The article (which I discovered thanks to The Irreverent Freelancer ) touches on many of the subjects that “we” (freelance writers, web writers, freelance writing blogs) constantly rehash: the ongoing hustle to find well-paid work in exchange for well-written pieces.

It happens all the time. You are sitting in a restaurant with friends or driving to work and there’s some beautiful music playing on the FM radio station. You would love to buy a copy of that music album for yourself but the problem is that you didn’t get the lyrics so how do you find out the name of that song

Some days the photo is obvious – others you need to go looking for it. Today was one of the latter, so I looked hard, and found this sparkly window walking home through our neighbourhood. But it’s the stonework lettering underneath that really caught my eye: the fact that a craftsman was paid to engrave ‘Agricultural Insecticides’ on the outside of the building, and did it beautifully

On Monday, Michael Danciger [ 1 ] died of cancer. Michael was the husband of Sandra’s lifelong friend, Janet. A short while ago, Michael sent out the 24th installment of his journal that chronicled his physical journey through illness and treatment and also his mental and spiritual journey to a place that, well, let’s let him say it.

Once in a while, I attend a conference that I am not speaking at. It’s a rare occasion, but it is a welcomed one when it happens because I don’t have to be “on” in my presentation mode. I can just sit back, relax and take in the sessions, network and go to the parties– just be myself

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Down 10 points late in the second half, the Swarthmore College women’s basketball team (4-7, 1-5) stormed all the way back and had a chance to tie homestanding Gettysburg on its final possession, but three-point attempts from freshman Eliza Polli and junior Ceylan Bodur rimmed out as time expired, and the undefeated Bullets (11-0, 6-0) hung on to defeat the Garnet 51-48 on Wednesday evening.

“Serious doubt has been cast on the theory that…chronic fatigue syndrome is caused by a new retrovirus,” The Guardian reported. The newspaper said researchers from London have failed to replicate findings from the US that suggested a possible role for a virus called XMRV in causing CFS, also known as ME (myalgic encephalomyelitis). In the new study none of the 186 UK CFS patients tested carried the XMRV virus, in contrast to the US study in 2009, which found that about two-thirds of 101 CF…
