Green Marketing Really Has Gone Mainstream

At the Sustainable Brands ’09 conference in Monterey earlier this month, I couldn’t help noticing how far green marketing has come since I started my consulting business in 1989. The shift reflects the fact that the target demographic for green marketing is not the “educated women, 30-49, with children” of yesteryear, but one of many possible segments of a dynamic consumer base that now embraces 66% of all U.S

Perspective. And Perhaps The Need For A Rather Large Adult Beverage:

My life as of late has been… scattered, to say the least.  I realize I haven’t posted much here outside of some photo fodder and a couple of random updates here and there.  The thing is, I have so much going on that I think I’ve reached my limit and then some.  And this is the queen of multitasking we’re talking about here.  I’m up to my eyeballs three-fold, in work, photography, research, painting, family things, health things, travel, and some friendship stuffs.  I feel like I’m working extr

As If eHarmony Hasn’t Been Made Fun of Enough

I know you’re supposed to be all happy for other couples when you’re in love, but yesterday, I found myself watching this commercial and thinking, “My greatest hope is that their relationship will end in a bitter, drag-out divorce”: It’s the “I didn’t need the Internet back when I was into scoring random hos/hoes at bars, but my mom told me I need to keep it in my pants now” line that really makes me want to see him unhappy, I think. Of course, I’ve always wanted to see these two fail mis

It Took Jon Hamm Two Hours to Look This Good

In a “Talk of the Town” piece in this week’s New Yorker , AMC’s head of marketing says that to create the instantly iconic new poster for Mad Men ‘s upcoming third season, “a replica of Draper’s office was built on the Paramount lot and filled with water, and Hamm posed in it for two hours” (the implication being that he is hopelessly unattractive). Also, she lists some of the rejected ideas for the ad: “Draper at an office party (‘too kitschy’), Draper trapped on an ice floe (‘too obvious’),

Yes, Your Social Media Strategy Needs Design

Why We’ll Miss Newspapers

photo credit: aloshbennett Tim Berry recently posted an article suggesting that the age of newspapers is on it’s way out if not already out. However, I do still see many people today reading newspapers including myself. I think there is still a great deal of people who rely on the newspaper for their news, but yes, there are much more people that don’t bother with them anymore

Why Is Obama’s Top Antitrust Cop Gunning for Google?

“ I think you are going to see a repeat of Microsoft.” Christine Varney’s blunt assessment sent a buzz through the audience at the National Press Club in Washington, DC. Varney , a partner at Hogan & Hartson and one of the country’s foremost experts in online law, was speaking at the ninth annual conference of the American Antitrust Institute , a gathering of top monopoly attorneys and economists. Most of the day was filled with dry presentations like “Verticality Regains Relevance
