French Onion Dip

A few weeks ago, I made plans to meet my friend Terresa in Pigalle, to check out a new épicerie (specialty food shop). I don’t know if you’re familiar with Pigalle , but the area has a certain well-deserved ‘reputation’ and if you’re a middle-aged man walking around by yourself in the evening, casually looking in the windows of the cafés and bars, don’t be surprised if a very scantily-clad woman tries to catch your eye back, and catch your fancy

The WorkAtHomeTruth Store and Affiliate Disclosure Policies

It's been a long process moving things to the WorkAtHomeTruth store, but it seems to solve a lot of problems in one fell swoop. Note, I'm not an attorney, so get your own legal advice on how to implement your own material connection disclosure.  I did however provide a tremendous amount of documentation to the FTC on one of their Operation Shortchange cases ( FTC v. In Deep Services ) that involved disclosures (although not affiliate disclosures) and spent a significant amount of time on the phone with one of the senior litigators there (and ultimately agreed to testify in the case).  I also had significant involvement in helping consumers file complaints and recover money (at no charge to them) on two of the other Operation Shortchange Cases, including Google Money Tree (National Consumer's League used a lot of my write-up and blog discussion here ).

Electronic Medical Records and Going For Broke: Jackson Health System’s Financial Future Appears Grim

I have written on numerous occasions that health IT in its present form, often poorly designed and implemented under current IT leadership structures, is often a waste of precious healthcare resources. The resources might be better spent on essentials such as patient care for the poor or improved human staffing, until this experimental technology is perfected. As at my site on health IT difficulties and mismanagement I observed: Healthcare information technology (HIT) holds great promise towards improving healthcare quality, safety and costs.

Protecting herbivorous fishes significantly increases rate of coral recovery

Grazing fishes in the Caribbean, like the many species of parrotfish pictured here, can help corals recover by keeping macroalgae, a main source of food for the fish, under control. Perhaps one of the most integral contributors to any ecosystem anywhere is the coral, reef building, habitat-providing colonial organisms facing big challenges from bleaching and disease, pressures which have been linked to climate change. Two major events led to declines in coral populations in the Caribbean,…

The Sunday Times, AFP, WUWT, and others inform that the IPCC is likely to confirm a criticism from a recent Indian government report, retract a statement that the Himalayan glaciers are likely to be gone by 2035, and disagree with a railway engineer who said that India was arrogant to doubt that the glaciers will be gone by 2035. That wouldn’t be extraordinary if the railway engineer were not the IPCC boss. The basic points about the scientific origin of the figure “2035″ are now well und…
